Ch. Canon (Saint-Emilion 1er GCC “B”)
Now under the same ownership as Château RAUZAN-SEGLA. Historically a very significant property and one that is now making a welcome return to the top division of Saint-Emilion estates. The vineyard has been extended with the purchase of Château Curé-Bon in 2001, which has been incorporated into Canon. The cellars have also been cleaned up and modernised after taint problems.
Vines at Château Canon
The 1998 was a clear step-up in quality and wines since the millenium have all been ★★★★ and since 2015 on the cusp of ★★★★★. Prior to this you should tread with caution. At its best this is a taut, restrained style with finely structured tannin. It is elegant, medium in weight and once more very ageworthy. The second wine, Clos Canon, was renamed Croix Canon in 2012 and is classified as a St Émilion Grand Cru in its own right. (DM/NB)
