Leading Champagne House of Deutz have sent us their  assessment of the 2019 season vine flowering. They ask “Should we now consider hard winters to be a thing of the past”? Read their conclusions here.  News of Wine Paris 2020, we are flagging this up for wine merchants, buyers and restaurants and bring you some advanced details of the substantial Paris based wine fair held early next year. Neville interviewed Matteo Furlan, the head sommelier at The Ritz, London, who has recently been voted the Villa Sandi  UK Sommelier of the Year by showing remarkable in-depth knowledge of wine and wine service skills.  Neville was one of the judges and was intrigued to find out what makes Matteo tick. Maison Boisset acquiring Alex Gambal…..The Boisset wine group is in the course of completing the purchase of the small American owned Burgundy producer Alex Gambal. The Boisset family has significant winery investments in France and in California with a vineyard area of over 700 ha. They also have an involvement in leading wine writer Steven Spurriers English sparkling wine project in Dorset, Bride Valley Vineyard.  

New blog content for inspiration…  Neville profiles recent changes at Biondi-Santi the most famous estate in Montalcino, Tuscany  and a recently added producer profile of Tenuta Sant’ Antonio (Veneto/Valpollicella) where the four Castagnedi brothers have catapulted their father’s vineyard holdings into a state of the art full wine producing facility enabling them to exploit to the fullest the 100 hectares of vines they own. David profiles one of the very top domaines in the Languedoc.  La Pèira (Terrasses du Larzac) a significant new name, founded in 2004, for really top quality Languedoc reds.  He also provides a new profile of the Tuscan Antinori family operation in the Napa Valley. Antica (Napa Valley). Located in the Atlas Peak District, this is the Tuscan ANTINORI firm’s Napa Valley outpost.

Wine Film – Wine Calling (Le Vin se Lève). Neville recently saw this film at The French Institute in South Kensington, made with great passion by director Bruno Sauvard . You can watch a trailer with English sub titles and read about Wine Calling here.
