The Latest – October 2019
New Blogs, Wine Dinner, Gift Card & member discounts
We did not send out a Newsletter in September as our colleague, Neville Blech sadly passed away after a long battle with cancer on 6 September so as you might imagine there has been a lull in activities. We cover Neville’s last two blogs below.
Blogs on the website include two regular full profiles from the 11 edition of Wine behind the label with our ratings. This should give you an excellent idea of what you can enjoy when purchasing a full guide or signing up for Club membership which includes a complimentary full guide. Neville updated the profile from the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classé property Château Canon and added a new winery profile for Gróf Degenfeld (Tokaji). We will continue to cover Neville’s work on the 11th edition with further profiles written and updated by him.
For our Club members Kathleen Burk, one of our team contributors, has reviewed Tokaj Classic Winery, Mád, Hungary, having just returned from a visit to Mád, a village in the Tokaj-Hegyalja wine region a few kilometres from the town of Tokaj. The village is the home of several of the best-known producers of Tokaji, including Oremus, István Szepsy, Royal Tokaji Wine, and the Tokaj Classic Winery. Access to this post is via Club membership.
Janey has added details for visiting some vineyards in Surrey and Berkshire. They are accessible for visiting if you are in the area or wish to travel by train and all have profiles in Wine behind the Label.
In November we will be offering readers the opportunity of enjoying a magnificent wine dinner and tasting presented by owner Hervé Kerlann who will guide guests through his wines from Château de Laborde. The dinner will take place aboard “The Yacht”, moored permanently at Temple Pier on the River Thames near Temple Underground Station on Tuesday November 12th 2019 at 7pm for 7.30. You can read all the details here. We need to receive bookings before 28th October.

On the News front we highlighted that Fourcas Dupré had been acquired by a Breton entrepreneur. On July 31, 2019, Gérard Jicquel acquired Château Fourcas Dupré in Listrac-Medoc. This French entrepreneur is a co-founder and partner (with Christian Roulleau who acquired Château Dauzac in Margaux at the beginning of the year) of the SAMSIC group, a leader of integrated services to companies and sponsor of the Arkéa-Samsic cycling team. This very discreet Breton seeks to develop his investments in France. “For me it is a return to the earth,” he says exclusively for Anthocyanes.fr.
Our Club membership offers a keen package with the price of the membership including the full digital guide and in addition to this you will get the member updates every quarter. There are member discounts on Mark Thomas Lead-Free Crystal Glassware and Alessandro Masnaghetti maps and books.
Finally, don’t forget our Gift Card – an ideal present for your wine loving friends and colleagues.
Happy eating, happy drinking and happy travelling!
