Alta Vista Mendoza
This new venture in Argentina’s high-quality Luján de Cuyo region was established by the late Jean-Michel Arcaute and Patrick d’Aulan with the objective of producing cool-grown Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon of real style and quality. Additional input is now provided by Michel Rolland of BON PASTEUR. There are around 61ha of vineyards and a wide range of wines is produced. There are varietal Classic labelled Malbec, Cabernet and Torrontés while the Premium labelled wines are a step up and include fresh aromatic Torrontés and an oaky Chardonnay. Premium Malbec is chunky and full of forward, easy-going, brambly fruit; more serious are the Malbec Terroir Selection and three excellent single vineyard wines, Alizarine, Serenade and Temis. Atemporal is a blend of Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petit Verdot. The Alto is a very powerfully structured blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon and has an excellent balance of dark, spicy fruit, supple firm tannins and well-judged oak. The wine is neither fined nor filtered. (DM)
