Amisfield Central Otago
At Amisfield there is now ample evidence of the dividend of investment combined with expertise. The American ownership has enlisted the services of Jeff Sinnott who is now into his stride crafting whites of similar precision and structure that established ISABEL ESTATE as one of Marlborough leading wineries. Since 2006 fruit from over 80 ha of vineyard now receives the best possible handling at a new winery facility at Lowburn. Dry Riesling is a fine Central Otago example with plenty of life and elegance while the Pinot Gris is fruit centred but nicely detailed with good breadth. Pinot Noir comes from the foot of the Pisa range and is lush and expressive with a profile closest to Volnay in Burgundian terms. Also made are Sauvignon Blanc and Lowburn Terrace Riesling, a lighter style, with lower alcohol. There is more to consider – look out especially for a new Waitaki sourced Pinot Noir. Visitors to region can (and should) take advantage of Amisfield’s Bistro. Under the same ownership are the Lake Hayes wines.
