Andrew Murray Vineyards Santa Ynez Valley
Andrew Murray Vineyards is a relatively new and good Rhône specialist. The range is dominated by Syrah. There is an approachable fruit driven example Tous Les Jours as well as a number of single vineyard wines. Vineyard sources have included Stolpman, Thompson, Watch Hill and Terra Bella. Esperance is a stylish blend of Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre, full of ripe berry fruit, spices and herbs. All the components are vinified separately before final blending and ageing. Cinsault and Mourvèdre are also now produced from the Curtis Vineyard in the Santa Maria Valley. Reds also include fruit driven Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon under the This is E11even label. The Viognier is cool-fermented to emphasise its peachy, exotic character and should be drunk young. In addition an RGB white is a blend of Roussanne and Grenache Blanc, a varietal Roussanne was originally made as well. An entry level white This is E11even Unplugged combines Chenin and Sauvignon Blanc. These are stylish and complex wines which show a deft handling of fruit and oak in the top reds. (DM)
