Andrew Rich Wines Willamette Valley
Andrew Rich established his operation a little over a decade ago and produces wines from both Oregon and Washington sources. As well as Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Gewürztraminer a range of Rhône varieties including Grenache, Mourvèdre and Roussanne as well as Syrah contribute to his small range. Sauvignon Blanc has been produced from the Croft Vineyard for a number of vintages and is finely structured with impressively ripe tropical as well as green fruit notes. Pinot Noir Prelude comes from a blend of vineyard sources. Rich and characterful, there is a fine mix of red berry and darker plum fruit and very well judged oak. Unfortunately the dark, smoky and richly textured Syrah Prometheus is made only in tiny quantities. It is more reminiscent of the best from Cornas than further north in the Rhône. Sourced from a blend of three of Washington’s best sites, the Ciel du Cheval, Klipsun and Red Willow vineyards, the wine will add further complexity with 4 or 5 years’ of ageing. (DM)
