Anglim Winery Paso Robles
The Anglim’s small range of wines is mainly focussed on Rhône styles with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Zinfandel as well as Pinot Noir from the Fiddlestix Vineyard in the Sta. Rita Hills (see FIDDLEHEAD CELLARS). Output remains strictly boutique at around 3,000 to 4,000 cases per year with all the wines produced in pretty small lots, although they are all very fairly priced. Generally French oak only is used for ageing and this with restraint to allow the fruit to shine through. The Central Coast Syrah is elegant, stylish and black-fruited with a hint of spiciness. Cabernet Sauvignon is very much in an approachable fruit driven style, aged in used oak and given extra fragrance with the addition of a little Syrah. Zinfandel from the St. Peter of Alcantara Vineyard is a classically Paso, berry-laden example. It is an exception with a small amount of American oak used for ageing which compliments the sweet-fruited style of the wine. Ripe honeyed, spicy Viognier comes from the Bien Nacido Vineyard and is given a three day maceration, then fermented and aged in used oak with regular lees stirring. Look out also for a blend, Cameo, which comprises Viognier, Grenache Blanc and Roussanne and a Rosé which complete the range. (DM)
