Austin Hope Family Wines Paso Robles
As well as making the wine at his own small property here, Austin Hope is the winemaker for his family’s winery TREANA. The focus here is purely on the Rhône Valley. The Syrah is sourced from the Hope Family Vineyard to the west of Paso Robles, which has a high limestone content. The vines are planted at a high density and yields are rarely more than 1.5 tons to the acre. Fermentation is in small open-top tanks and ageing is in 100% new French oak. This big, full-blown, vibrant wine offers loads of rich, dark and spicy fruit and not inconsiderable oak character. A Grenache is also now made alongside the Syrah and is similarly priced. A Roussanne, originally from the Mer Soleil Vineyard in the Santa Lucia Highlands, now coming from the home Hope Family Vineyard is also released. (DM)
