Bacio Divino Cellars Rutherford
Claus Janzen’s small operation is now the source of a number of labels. The Bacio Divino red is a very stylish, impressive and unusual blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Sangiovese and Petite Sirah. Part of Claus Janzen’s inspiration was tasting the red at Domaine de Trevallon in Provence, itself a blend of unconventional varieties.
The Bacio Divino is a rich, smoky and succulent wine, accessible and ripe with velvety tannins and great depth. Pazzo is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah and is produced in a lush, forward style to be enjoyed sooner rather than later. Among other labels recently added to the range Vagabond includes a Syrah (£F) and Petite Sirah (£E) and Lucie a Chardonnay (£E) and a couple of Pinot Noirs (£F).
Under the Janzen label there is a reasonably priced Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon (£E) as well as a number of much more expensive Janzen Vineyard Designate Cabernets (£H) from the Beckstoffer To Kalon and Missouri Hopper as well as the small estate Cloudy’s Vineyard on the high eastern slopes of the Napa Valley. These are available in magnums or jeroboams. (DM)
