Widely experienced Roseworthy graduate Paddy Borthwick has pioneered viticulture in the Dakins Road area since the company was established in 1996. His 27 ha of vineyards are planted on freedraining river terraces, like those to the south in Martinborough, and he has similarly placed his faith in Pinot Noir. Though the vines are still very young, the wine already shows impressive ripeness, breadth and complexity. Riesling is promising too: intense and pungent if not yet with the structure to stand long ageing. Sauvignon Blanc, with more than a hint of the tropical fruits trait the region can provide, is similarly intense but should be drunk young. Other wines, all estate-sourced, include varietal Chardonnay and Pinot Gris.
