Clos d’Agon Cataluña
This small bodega is located in the far north-east of the country on the granite plateau of Girona and the vineyards are just a few kilometres from the Mediterranean coast and just south of the French border. The property is owned by a group of Swiss friends who retain Peter Sisseck (who vinifies PINGUS) as a consultant. The gravel, clay and granite soils and the maritime influence on the local mesoclimate provide an excellent environment for cultivating the Bordeaux red varieties. Clos d’Agon Tinto is a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and some Syrah amd a little Petit Verdot. The second wine Valmaña is good if quite a bit lighter and from a similar blend. A little stylish, barrel-fermented white is also made which is a nutty, peachy, citrus scented mix of Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne. A tinta, a blanca and a rosado are also made under the Amic label from Garnacha Tinta and Blanca. (DM)
