coldheavencellarsMorgan Clendenen’s objective with her wines is to find the best possible cool-grown Viognier, believing that the best examples with the finest structure from Condrieu emerge from those producers who harvest with plenty of acidity. Excessive alcohol is avoided and the wines are fermented in used oak and aged until malolactic has been completed. They are cold-stabilised and lightly fined but bottled unfiltered. The Sanford and Benedict has been the best example thus far and the wine is classic cool-climate, fruit-driven Viognier with marked floral perfume and a fine, mineral undercurrent lending depth and finesse. Morgan also releases a Viognier made in association with Yves CUILLERON, Domaine des Deux Mondes Saints & Sinners, including Sanford and Benedict fruit. She also releases a little Pinot Noir and Syrah as well as a Viognier from the Le Bon Climat Vineyard. The Viogniers may be enjoyed young but will evolve nicely for 3 or 4 years. (DM)
