Darioush Winery Napa Valley
Darioush Khaledi established this winery in 1997 but the results are already impressive. He owns 13 ha (33 acres) of vineyards around the site of the spectacular new winery building, along with 10 ha (25 acres) in the Mount Veeder and Atlas Peak AVAs. Most of the wines are released under the Signature label. The Signature reds are rich, vibrant and impressively dense and powerful. Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. A Russian River Valley Pinot Noir Signature is also made. In addition a premium release red, Darius II comes from mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and is sourced from the Sage Vineyard on Mount Veeder and the Apadana Block on the Darioush Estate. The wines have minimal handling in the cellar and the reds are bottled without filtration. Expect them to age well over the medium term. (DM)
