Dominio del Plata Mendoza
This is the home winery of Pedro Marchevsky and Susana Balbo who are the manager and winemaker at ANUBÍS. The Crios label offers some attractive, fruit-driven wines including a fine floral Torrontés and two reds, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Syrah/Bonarda blend. The top Dominio del Plata wines are a serious step up in both quality and price. Of the three labels the Susana Balbo and Nosostros wines offer greater depth and power. They are also produced in much smaller volumes.
Expresivo is a blend of Malbec from cool La Consulta as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Bonarda, Tannat and a little Merlot. Each variety is vinified separately and the wine aged in at least 50% new wood. The top label Nosostros is a richly textured old Malbec. Brioso, which like Nosostros is aged in new French oak, means strength and the wine is both deep and concentrated with great poise and refinement. It blends Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot and will develop well for up to a decade. A new reasonably priced Malbec, Zohar has also recently been added (DM)
