Dominus Estate Yountville
Christian Moueix is a member of the Bordeaux dynasty responsible for Château Petrus. Some of the exotic but firm youthful elements of that great wine are reflected in Dominus despite it being a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. The key is in the winemaking and while the ripe fruit character of the Napanook Vineyard shows through it still possesses a classically powerful tannic structure. It requires up to a decade or more of ageing to show at its best, providing a wine of balance, subtlety and refinement. The Napanook is an impressive second label first produced in 1996. It is considerably more forward than the grand vin and can be approached easily with 3 or 4 years’ development. (DM)
