Errázuriz is based in the Panquehue sub-region of Aconcagua and has several hundred ha of vineyards. Fruit is generally sourced from the home vineyards but also from cool Casablanca for whites. The range is comprehensive and there are some well-made, stylish wines at all levels. The regular varietals show well-defined fruit character. Superior selections come under the Max Reserva label and there are two striking Wild Ferment wines: a Chardonnay full of citrus and lightly smoked oak, and a forward, vibrant Pinot Noir marked by sappy cherry and wild strawberry aromas.
Sangiovese and Carmenère Single Vineyard labels are both impressively concentrated as is the newly added La Cumbre Shiraz. A further icon label, Kai is dominated by Carmenère. The top reds include the Don Maximiano Founders Reserve and the super-premium SEÑA, which has real potential. An additional range of premium varietals is made at the LA ARBOLEDA ESTATE. 1999 was also the first vintage of VINEDO CHADWICK, a super-premium blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère from a 15 ha vineyard in the Maipo Valley. The wine promises much. Also jointly owns CALITERRA. (DM)
