Fantesca Winery Spring Mountain
Tiny property producing initially just 400 cases a year of Cabernet Sauvignon from around 4 ha (10 acre) vineyard in the south-eastern reaches of the small Spring Mountain AVA. To this have been added a Chardonnay, a Pinot Noir King Richards Reserve both from the Russian River, as well as a red blend All Great Things. The vines on the property are above the fog line and complexity is aided by a wide variation in aspect and slope as well as a long ripening period. The Cabernet, made by Heidi Barrett, is a big, sturdy mountain wine with firm tannins and dark, spicy black fruits, and will require a minimum of 5–7 years’ ageing to soften. (DM)
