Manfred Felsner produces good, reasonably priced Grüner Veltliner and Riesling from his family’s estate in Kremstal. There is not the style, complexity or concentration seen from top Wachau producers but the wines are generally soundly made with good varietal expression. Grüner Veltliner is grown on loess soils and shows yellow plum, lentil, spice and pepper in several different bottlings. An expressive, stylish Riesling from the Gebling vineyard is the best of those tasted. Reds include soft, supple St-Laurent and a spicy, flavoursome Zweigelt.
