Flowers Winery Sonoma Coast
This is now part owned by the firm that includes Napa Valley Quintessa in its portfolio. It is a very good Sonoma coastal property with vineyards planted in volcanic soils and moderated by cooling maritime breezes making for an ideal environment for cultivating Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Vinification follows age-old Burgundian techniques for both varieties. As well as the wines rated here, Pinot Noir is also made from the home Sea View Ridge vineyard and a further red Perenial is a varying blend dominated by Pinot Noir, Syrah and Pinot Meunier, with very small proportions of Dolcetto and Chardonnay. The Moon Select bottlings are a special vineyard selection from within the family’s estate property. Chardonnay is restrained and minerally with a fine balance of citrus fruit and subtle, lightly toasty oak. Pinot is full of bright berry fruit and hints of smoky cherries. The depth and intensity of the Camp Meeting Ridge cuvée suggests 3 or 4 years’ ageing will be rewarded. (DM)
