Forman Vineyard St Helena
Ric Forman makes impressive examples of both Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon which also includes Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Vineyards established in the early 1980s are the source of his excellent raw material. Planted mainly in volcanic gravel and sand, they are sparse and provide naturally low-yielding fruit. The Chardonnay is rich and lightly tropical with a pure mineral edge and well-integrated oak. It has unusually good grip and structure for a Napa example, being fermented and aged in oak but without the malolactic fermentation. The Cabernet Sauvignon is rich, concentrated and cedary, with subtle cassis notes in the background. The wine is firmly structured and possesses the depth and fruit quality to develop well in bottle for 5 or more years and keep considerably longer. The wines are notable for their excellent value.
