Four Vines Paso Robles
The output at this winery, famed for “off the wall” labelling and an essentially fun approach to wine is now not inconsiderable. However the wines remain true to their origins, well made full of fruit and with the kind of balance and structure that supports drinking with food, something so many fruitbomb high point scorers so singularly fail to achieve. Spicy, vibrant Zinfandel sourced from a range of sites but always with the complexity of older vines as well as the Naked Chardonnay make up the core of a very well-priced range of wines along with the red Truant which is mostly Zinfandel. There is a range of old vine Zin offerings along with Petite Sirah. A level up in both quality and price is a small range of red blends, known to the winery as the “Freakshow”, as well as a Petite Sirah, the “The Heretic”, we can vouch for the Anarchy, a rich, dense and brambly, peppery blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Zinfandel.
