Geyser Peak Winery Alexander Valley
This is a substantial operation with an extensive range. The California Series varietal wines are generally sound and tend to emphasize straightforward fruit characters. With the exception of the Sonoma County Chardonnay the other wines take the California appellation. A level up are the wines produced under the Appellation Series banner and as well as the Sauvignon Blanc River Ranches, Water Bend Chardonnay comes from the Alexander Valley, Pluto’s Fury Pinot Noir from the Russian River, Walking Tree Cabernet Sauvignon also from the Alexander Valley and a Tectonic Red Blend which combines Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot.
The Reserve wines including a cedary Cabernet and a meritage Bordeaux blend, which are both aged in French oak for 18 months and are crafted from the winery’s best vineyards and lots. An Inkstand Cabernet is also now released which includes a little Petit Verdot, Petite Sirah and Malbec. If you are visiting there are also a number of wines made in small runs of barely more than 150 cases and available solely from the winery. These include the top Bin series Cabernet Sauvignon from the Alexander Valley. (DM)
