Goldeneye Winery Anderson Valley
Dan and Margaret DUCKHORN are responsible for distinctive, once almost ferocious Napa Merlots as well as the Paraduxx Zinfandels. Goldeneye is their Anderson Valley property, specialising in Pinot Noir and also now making Pinot Gris from the Split Rail Vineyard and estate grown Confluence Vineyard Gewürztraminer. The vineyards stand out for their cool climate and the proximity of the Pacific coastline. The Anderson Valley example is now sourced from four different estate vineyards.
It is dominated by bright strawberry fruit, supple tannin and a marked vanilla character after spending 18 months in new French oak. It will drink very well with 2–3 years’ age. Estate single vineyard wines are also released and the top wine Ten Degrees Estate Grown is a special selection and is fairly pricey (£G). (DM)
