Hamilton Russell Vineyards Walker Bay
Hamilton Russell is the original and remains among the most impressive producers of both Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in the cool and visually stunning Walker Bay. The wines have much improved over the last decade or so, with better clones planted and a concerted effort to isolate the very best aspects of the vineyards for each variety. No artificial fertilisers are used in the stony, clay soils and cover crops are planted to optimise fruit ripening. Chardonnay is refined but has attractive, lightly tropical notes and real intensity with a pure, almost European mineral undercurrent. Pinot Noir is rich and full of dark berry fruit, with just a hint of hung meat. Chardonnay, like Pinot Noir is consistently on the cusp of four stars. A second property, SOUTHERN RIGHT, is for Sauvignon and Pinotage, with wines showing impressive potential. Anthony Hamilton-Russell is also producing world class Pinotage from his ASHBOURNE vineyard.
