Hourglass Wine Napa Valley
A handful of reds and an Hourglass Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc (£E) are made here. The Hourglass site is a tiny 1.6ha (4 acre) vineyard planted in 1992 in close proximity to the COLGIN Tychson Hill, VINEYARD 29 and GRACE FAMILY vineyards. Spread across the hillside as well as the valley floor, the soil is made up of a rocky/gravelly loam mix ideal for low yielding vines and producing top quality, intensely flavoured grapes. A second larger vineyard Blueprint was acquired in 2006 and more economically priced reds from Cabernet Franc (£G), Cabernet Sauvignon (£G), Merlot (£F) and Malbec (£F) are also now made from these plots. The Hourglass Cabernet Sauvignon is produced from 100% varietal fruit and is in a very rich, ripe style. Ageing is for 18 to 20 months in a mix of new and used French oak. (DM)
