La Crema Winery Russian River Valley
A significant winery in the Kendall-Jackson empire, La Crema was originally established in 1979. It produces a now extensive range of good, well-crafted and reasonably priced Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, along with Pinot Gris, and Viognier. There are particularly good value wines taking the Sonoma Coast and Monterey appellations. An extensive and impressive array of wines are also made from a number of smaller AVAs, including marginally pricier Fog Veil and Shell Ridge Vineyard Pinots from the Russian River.
The winery have also ventured outside California for the first time and have established Pinot Noir vineyards in the Willamette Valley in Oregon. The Chardonnay is typically ripe and exotic with tropical notes and evident oak, the reds are marked by forward, ripe berry fruit. Russian River and Carneros bottlings are a step up in depth and intensity. A special selection of pricier Chardonnay (£F) and Pinot Noir (£G) is released under the Nine Barrels label which is a selection of the best barrels from the wineries Russian River fruit. (DM)
