La Follette Wines Russian River Valley
Founded by Greg Bjornstadt and Greg la Follette and originally named Tandem, La Follette is now a partnership of Greg La Follette and Pete Kight who also owns QUIVIRA Vineyards. Bjornstadt has established his own new label, Bjornstadt Cellars, while La Follette remains to direct operations here. He was responsible for establishing FLOWERS and more recently has provided consultancy to other small scale operations including HALLECK. Fruit comes from some of the best growers in the area. Pinot Noir is the key variety but Chardonnay and a Pinot Meunier from the van der Kamp Vineyard are also made. Vineyard sources are Sangiacomo, Van der Kamp, Manchester Ridge in Mendocino and DuNah in the Russian River Valley for Pinot Noir as well as Sangiacomo, Manchester Ridge and Lorenzo in the Russian River for Chardonnay. Pinot Noir is supple and forward drinking well young and improving for five years. Rich, Burgundian styled Van der Kamp Pinot offers real depth and persistence, the Sangiacomo is a touch more firmly structured with a smoky concentration and a gamey, truffley undercurrent. (DM)
