Lail Vineyards Rutherford
Although this is a newly established small-scale winery, owner Robin Daniel Lail’s family history goes back to the beginnings of viticulture in Napa itself. One of her ancestors, Gustav Niebaum, established the original Inglenook winery in 1879. Five wines are now made here. The J Daniel Cuvée is a Bordeaux blend of two-thirds Cabernet Sauvignon and one-third Merlot. It is sourced from a mere 2.3 ha (5.6 acres). The second red the Blueprint is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. A gooseberry scented Sauvignon Blanc was added with the 2007 vintage. Winemaker Philippe Melka continues to produce increasingly stylish, elegant and very finely structured meritage reds. A further Cabernet from Howell Mountain, Mole Hill as well as a second serious Sauvignon Blanc, Georgia are also made. (DM)
