Laurel Glen Vineyard Sonoma Mountain
Small operation with some 16 ha (40 acres) of prime vineyards planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Sauvignon is very much the dominant variety. The property has thin, rocky and superbly drained soils which provide an excellent base for producing explosive Cabernet Sauvignon and a second wine Counterpoint.
The Cabernet is 100% varietal and comes from slopes planted at close to 1,000 feet. Counterpoint is softer and more approachable with vibrant blackberry fruit qualities. Dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon there is a small amount of Merlot to soften the palate. A rosé is also made, Crazy Old Vine Rosé, which comes from estate grown fruit and a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon and a number of unspecific other varieties. A further Cabernet, The Laureate, will be released under the guidance of consulting winemaker David Ramey . The first release from 2010 is less than 100 cases. (DM)
