Lemelson Vineyards Willamette Valley
This new Willamette operation was established in 1999 with the completion of its winery facility. A small and impressive range of well priced Pinot Noirs are produced along with a good Chardonnay, dominated by melon and lightly mineral, spicy flavours rather than others which can be excessively tropical and oaky. Riesling and Pinot Gris are also made. The key wines though, as elsewhere throughout the Willamette are the Pinot Noirs. The firm has a considerable resource in the ownership of vineyards, which they farm organically, across a range of sites and soil types and yields are always kept in check and careful attention paid to canopy management to optimise fruit ripening. The Six Vineyards bottling is soft, fruit driven and forward, a blend of all the different sources. Thea’s Selection, is a rich, fruit driven style, with soft supple tannin. The Stermer Vineyard bottling and the top wine Jerome Reserve are firmer and sturdier. The Jerome Reserve is additionally aged for up to 18 months in a mix of new and used oak. Concentrated and powerful it should develop well in bottle for 5 years or more. (DM)
