Lincourt Vineyards Santa Barbara County
Bill Foley established this operation in 1996 where he produces wines from mainly Santa Maria and Santa Ynez fruit sources. More recently he has also established his own vineyard property Rancho Santa Rosa from where he produces estate grown Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his FOLEY winery label. Both Santa Maria and the Sta. Rita Hills are important components for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The Pinot Noir is classically vinified with punching down of the cap during fermentation and vatting and the wine aged for 15 months in oak. A series of additional and pricier (£E) single vineyard Pinots are also released. The lightly tropical Chardonnay is tank aged and is whole cluster pressed. There are also a number of more expensive examples of the variety which are ably handled from single vineyards. While these wines are relatively simple straightforward, fruit driven examples they all offer good value. Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc are also made. (DM)
