Loring Wine Company Santa Barbara County
Pinot Noir, in various vineyard guises, is the main wine made by Brian Loring at his Lompoc warehouse winery, and very impressive it is too. Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre, branded Not Pinot, are also made as well as a series of Chardonnays, most of which are single vineyard wines. Fruit for the Pinots comes from some of the best vineyard sites for the variety and the wines are marked by their rich texture and piercing varietal purity. The grapes are given a cold soak prior to fermentation and then gently basket-pressed before ageing in 50% new French oak. Both the Cargasacchi and Clos Pepe bottlings come from the cool Sta. Rita Hills. The Cargasacchi is a surprisingly rich and opulent wine with weight and a rich sweet texture to its fruit. The Clos Pepe is less gamey, more dark minerally with a tight, firm structure. It should age very well. As well as single vineyard wines a number of AVA releases are also available from the Russian River, Santa Lucia Highlands, San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara County as well as a Sta. Rita Hills wine.
