Montinore Estate Willamette Valley
Rudy Marchesi is putting considerable investment into this sizeable operation since purchasing the winery in January 2006. The latest white vintages are already very promising and the Pinot Noirs consistently improving. The property consists of more than 84 ha (210 acres) of vineyards and is now farmed biodynamically. Of the two premium labeled Pinot Noirs the Graham’s Block is solely Pommard clones and aged in 70% new oak whereas the Parsons’ Ridge gets a little less new wood. Both are vinified in small lots. Pinot Gris is a fresh crisp and forward style, with good acidity and just a touch of residual sugar. The Gewürztraminer is the best of the wines covered here, offering fruit with a very pure lychee varietal character and just a touch of sweetness on the wines finish. Riesling and Müller-Thurgau are also planted. (DM)
