Owen Roe Willamette Valley
This small Newberg-based winery produces wines under two labels. The Owen Roe label is for topquality, small-lot wines, while the Sharecroppers generics includes a Cabernet as well as the berryladen, lightly gamey Pinot Noir. Quality is extremely high and the Owen Roe wines consistently offer a level of subtlety, elegance and purity of fruit rarely encountered in either state. Very small volumes of the various Owen Roe labels are available. Inevitably the wines are fairly scarce. Cabernet Franc from the Rosa Mystica Block of the Yakima Valley Roza Hills Vineyard is elegant and pure with subtle, leafy varietal character and fine intensity. The Red from the Dubrol Vineyard from the Yakima Valley is a Bordeaux styled blend produced from microscopic yields of late-picked fruit and offers formidable depth as well as impeccable balance. Pinot Noir The Kilmore from Pommard clones grown in Willakenzie soils produces a rich, dark-berry example of impressive persistence. The Owen Roe wines will benefit from a little age, particularly the Dubrol Red. (DM)
