Papapietro Perry Winery Russian River Valley
The first commercial vintage was as recent as 1998 at this very new, small but high-quality warehouse winery with a range of single vineyard Pinot Noirs and two special clonal selections, Pommard Clones and 777 Clones, which are touch pricier. There is also a small amount of Zinfandel from the Dry Creek Valley including two single vineyard examples, Pauline’s and Elsbree as well as Chardonnay which also comes from the Peters Vineyard.
A number of classic Pinot techniques are used. The wines get a three day cold soak and are fermented by vineyard lot in small containers. The wines are regularly hand plunged to aid extraction and to keep the temperature of the fermenting must under control. The dark and richly concentrated wines are aged in 60% new oak which is seamlessly integrated. They are bottled unfined and unfiltered. (DM)
