Peter Franus Wine Company Rutherford
Impressive small producer with a range sourced from a number of committed grape growers. The style is very much one of minimal intervention and the wines are impressive without being overdone. Cabernet comes from a number of Napa sources. Zinfandel is always stylish and vibrant: the Napasourced example is impressive but better is the stylish and complex Mount Veeder wine from the Brandlin Vineyard. A Napa Valley Bordeaux blend is also made as well as a Cabernet Franc, a Merlot and a Rhône style Red Hills Red from Lake County. Sauvignon from the Stewart Vineyard in Carneros sees no new wood and is fresh zesty and striking. Whites also come from Chenin Blanc and Albariño. (DM)
