Piedrasassi Santa Barbara County
This very small volume label is led by Sashi Moorman the winemaker at STOLPMAN VINEYARDS. The Piedrasassi Syrah is sourced from a number of vineyard sites including Sebastiano, HARRISONCLARKE, Rim Rock and Spanish Springs Vineyards. The varied components provide a wine of intense weight and concentration as well as surpising complexity, with a markedly sauvage quality and real mineral purity. Vinification is strictly artisanal and a sizeable proportion of whole bunches are used and the fruit is given around a months cold soak. Aging is in neutral larger oak up to 500 litres. The wine should develop well for at least a decade. The small range has now been expanded to include a slightly pricier cool climate Rim Rock Syrah from San Luis Obispo, a second approachable, fruit driven Syrah PS, a Lompoc Wine Co. Pinot from the Sta. Rita Hills and a Central Coast White from Albariño and Sauvignon Blanc. A Santa Barbara Syrah and a Chardonnay are available exclusively from the small tasting room under the Vineland label. (DM)
