Plumpjack Winery Oakville
The Plumpjack winery is just a part of a leisure-based operation that specialises in food and wine and includes the luxury Squaw Valley Inn at Olympic Valley. Good to very good Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Chardonnay are produced and Syrah has also now been added to the small range. The winery is nestled into the hills in the eastern side of the valley and surrounded by some 19.5 ha (48 acres) of estate vineyards planted in 1992. As the vines age their best is still to come if the same winemaking philosophy is maintained. The Chardonnay is ripe, forward and toasty, the Cabernet powerful and structured. The very expensive Reserve offers an extra dimension at a not inconsiderable premium. A new winery CADE has also been established on Howell Mountain producing Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The group also includes the Odette Estate Winery in Stags Leap producing from the 2012 vintage Cabernet Sauvignon in both Estate and Estate Reserve versions. (DM)
