Quinta de Chocapalha Lisboa
Quinta de Chocapalha is the family estate of talented winemaker Sandra Tavares da Silva (PINTAS). It comprises 40 ha of vineyards in a particularly blessed part of Lisboa. Quinta de Chocapalha adjoins QUINTA DA CORTEZIA but the wines are made in a contrasting way. For the red wines the grapes are foot-trodden in stone lagares (in robotic lagares from 2003) and fermented in French oak vats. All are then aged in French barriques, and show excellent fruit and extract but also a depth and texture not encountered in other good Lisboa reds. An intense, pure and classy Chocapalha Reserve is the best wine yet. The regular Quinta de Chocapalha includes Castelão and Alicante in the blend with Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz. Also made is a distinctive barrique-aged (50% new) Cabernet Sauvignon with a mineral quality to its berry and blackcurrant fruit. Also showing great promise is the Quinta de Chocapalha reserva Branco white from Chardonnay and Arinto (60/40) with the Chardonnay component fermented and aged in barriques. There is also a dry, racy, Riesling like Arinto (Quinta de Chocopalha Arinto) and a fresh, unoaked blend of Arinto, Viosinho and Vital (Quinta de Chocopalha Branco).
