Reverie Wine Diamond Mountain
Consultancy for winemaking at this 16 ha (40-acre) property with steep southfacing slopes in close proximity to DIAMOND CREEK has been provided from the outset by Ted Lemon of LITTORAI. Of the wines the AS Kiken is produced from all five red Bordeaux varieties. Coming from the lower-lying blocks of the estate, the wine is softer, more forward than the Special Reserve. The Barbera is bright, foward and essentially fruit-driven, although it still offers good grip from the variety’s trademark high acidity and has really piercing fruit intensity. Cabernet Franc is one of the best in the region. Loaded with rich, dark and spicy fruit and well-judged oak it has only the barest leafy, minty note to suggest the variety. The Special Reserve is emerging as one of Napa’s better premium reds and is not excessively priced. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Merlot, it is a big, rich and structured wine with an almost chocolaty edge to its fruit. Other reds include El Sueno a blend of Grenache, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon and the only white is a Rousanne. (DM)
