Rustenberg Wines Stellenbosch
Considerable investment has been put into this farm in recent years and the winery is now gravityfed, with some good results. There are a range of attractive, varietal as well as blended wines released as the winery’s Regional Range. These include crisp, ripe Sauvignon Blanc, an unwooded Chardonnay, a well crafted Roussanne as well as a Schoongezicht white from an interesting combination of Sémillon, Viognier and Roussanne and a red blend RM Nicholson comprising Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Malbec. Of real substance are the Flagship and Site Specific wines. Two Chardonnays are produced with intense citrus notes and well-judged oak, as well as the Rustenberg John X Merriman and Peter Barlow reds. The former, a Bordeaux blend with a sizeable proportion of both Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, shows sweet berry fruit and spicy oak. Peter Barlow is a more structured and ageworthy varietal Cabernet Sauvignon. Syrah, Merlot and a Straw Wine are also included in the range. The Brampton range has recently been sold to the DGB Group.
