Schloss Gobelsburg Kamptal
This ancient estate still belongs to a Cistercian monastery and the castle itself was built in the early 18th century. Under the winemaking direction of Michael Moosbrugger, with consultancy from Willi BRÜNDLMAYER since 1996, the wines have made amazing progress over recent vintages. 35 ha of vineyards give both Grüner Veltliner and Riesling that are fully ripe and intense but of superb definition and concentration too. There is great style and refinement in a rich yet poised Riesling (from Gaisberg) with a sublime pure fruit character, while a composed, concentrated and classy Heiligenstein is also marvellous. Regular Gobelsburger Riesling and Renner Grüner Veltliner are good value. Sparkling wine, reds (a Cuvée Bertrand blend, Pinot Noir, St Laurent and Zweigelt, the latter under the Domäne Gobelsburg label), and Messwein (altar wine, under the Gobelsburger name) are also made.
