Spring Valley Vineyard Walla Walla Valley
This property produces wines mainly from its own estate vineyards. There is a small range of reds that not only offer the opulence of the region but a fine and supple structure and purity that is rarely achieved by their neighbours. There is a lot of oak here as elsewhere, but it is very well judged. The Uriah is a richly opulent Merlot blend with dark, spicy plum and berry fruit and very impressive depth. The Frederick is based on Cabernet Sauvignon and is the firmest of the wines, deserving 5 years’ patience. The Nina Lee is a 100% Syrah with lots of dark pepper, oriental spices and exotic dark fruits. A number of other reds are also made. These include a varietal Merlot Mule Skinner a Cabernet Sauvignon Derby, a Cabernet Franc Katherine Corkrum and a Petit Verdot Sharilee. All should be well worth looking at. (DM)
