St Francis Vineyards Sonoma Valley
Impressive, medium-sized Sonoma winery founded in 1971. An extensive range is produced, mainly from Sonoma County fruit and at the top end the quality is striking. Zinfandels, both Old Vines and Three Valleys, are big, brooding, ripe examples of the variety.
Two other examples from the Anacieto and Bacchi vineyards are Russian River Valley sourced. The Sonoma County Terra Rossa is named after the red clay soils found throughout its Dry Creek, Russian River and Sonoma Valley vineyard sources. The Cabernet Kings Ridge Reserve, the top label, is powerful, refined and very well crafted. It will age gracefully and needs a minimum of 6 years. Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and a Gewürtraminer are also made. A fairly extensive range of reserve labels are also available solely from the winery. (DM)
