Tablas Creek Vineyard Paso Robles

Tablas Creek Vineyard Paso Robles

tablasThis is the first major overseas investment for the Perrin brothers of CHÂTEAU DE BEAUCASTEL in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Along with Robert Haas they have established an important nursery for Rhône Valley planting material and are now producing increasingly impressive red and white blends as the vineyards mature. The range of wines has been consistently increasing over recent vintages and now includes some of the best Rhône style wines on the Central Coast. The red and white Côtes de Tablas are in the mould of top-quality Côtes du Rhône. The red a blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Counoise, the white Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Marsanne and Roussanne. There is a vibrant and spicy Dianthus rosé which contains a large proportion of Mourvèdre and shares some of the structure of a good Bandol albeit it with with a riper more opulent fruit character. Approachable red, white rosé Patelin de Tablas examples are also made at a marginally lower price.. The top red and white Esprit de Tablas (formerly Esprit de Beaucastel) cuvées are consistently excellent with real depth and persistence. The white a blend of Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and just a touch of Viognier, the red is dominated by Mouvèdre with a small amount of Syrah and less Grenache and Counoise. Offering a firmer structure and grip than many of its neighbours it also offers a softer more accessible approach than can be found in the Beaucastel wines. A 100% Roussanne is one of an increasing number of varietal wines made. It is part barrel-fermented and there are tiny amounts of Antithesis, a full-blown style of Chardonnay, as well as Panoplie, a wine based on Mourvèdre and made when vintage conditions favour and recently Full Circle Pinot Noir. Additional white varietal labelled wines now made are Petit Manseng, Marsanne, Picpoul Blanc, Vermentino and Viognier. Reds are from Syrah, Tannat and Mourvèdre. The range is completed by a small amount of three Vin de Paille wines and a new En Gobelet label has been added coming from dry farmed and head pruned vines, it combines Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah and Tannat.
