Tin Barn Vineyards Sonoma County
This small winery is a collaboration of five friends, including winemaker Michael Lancaster who manages its daily operation. The business name emanates from the old barn found on the Sonoma Coast where Lancaster sources his earthy, cool climate Syrah. Other wines include grassy and lightly citrusy Sauvignon Blanc from Carneros, where the winery tasting room is based. The wine is 80% tank fermented with the balance in oak to add a little weight and structure.
A Cabernet Sauvignon from Sonoma Valley has a marked dark berry and plummy fruit character. A splendidly dark, savoury Zinfandel from the Russian River has a lovely blackberry and mineral character. Arguably the best wine here, however, is the Coryelle Fields Vineyard Syrah from the Sonoma Coast. It has dark spicy fruit that is well balanced by smoky new oak as well as impressive depth and substance. The reds, particularly Cabernet and Syrah, will develop nicely over four or five years. Pinot Noir also comes from the Ricci Vineyard in Carneros, Merlot from the Desnudos Vineyard in the Sonoma Valley and a rosé, Joon Rose of Syrah is also sourced from the Coryelle Fields Vineyard.
