Tor Wines St Helena
Tor Kenward makes small amounts of top-class Cabernet Sauvignon, a little Syrah labelled Hommage Allan, Grenache Cuvée Cooper from Paso Robles and Chardonnay both from the Hudson and Durrell Vineyards in Carneros. Cabernet Sauvignon comes from a vineyard south of Yountville established with the help of David Abreu using a field selection of clones from five different Napa sources, from the To Kalon Beckstoffer Vineyard as well as from Howell Mountain and a Napa Valley example is also made. The Cimarossa Howell Mountain Cabernet is sturdy, full and with firm, rounded youthful tannins. Syrah has also emerged from the Hudson Vineyard which was ripe, smoky and opulent. Chardonnay is made in a rich, ripe, peach- and citrus-laden style. The oak is finely judged and the wines are dominated by a rich, rounded texture on the palate. The Cabernets require 3 or 4 years, longer for the Howell Mountain. (DM)
