Vidon Vineyard Willamette Valley
This is a recently established small operation, producing Pinot Noir red as well as Tempranillo and Pinot Gris. The first vintage was in 2003 and the Pinot Noir is now labelled 3 Clones. As ever with small volume winemaking keeping a track of your favourite wines is not easy.
Production of all the wines is small. The estate vineyard is planted on a south-west facing slope at an elevation of 400 to 500 feet in the Chehalem Mountains just to the north of Newberg. The warm and sunny days here are moderated by cooling ocean breezes. This provides fruit enriched with a long, easy ripening period. Finely structured and elegant in style with just 10% new wood the 3 Clones bottling comes from a yield of barely 2 tons to the acre. Expect it to develop nicely for four or five years at least. (DM)
