Volker Eisele Family Estate St Helena
The Eisele family established this small Chiles Valley property in the early 1970s and the original Cabernet vines were planted in 1975. The vineyards are planted at an altitude between 900 to 1100 feet above sea level and this helps in promoting acidity and gives a slightly mineral edge to the wines. There are now 24 ha (60 acres) under vine, all farmed (and certified) organic. The Gemini White is a Graves style blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc. Fresh and quite forward in style with zesty citrus fruit and a honeyed undercurrent, the wine is fermented in stainless steel and then aged in oak, a proportion new, for four months. Enjoy this relatively young. The mainstay of the winery, Cabernet Sauvignon is blended with occasionally Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Aged in French oak (50% new) for 24 months, this is ripe, chocolatey with a structure and elegance imparted from Eisele’s cool altitude assisted site. The top wine Terzeto is a blend of one-third each of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Aged in mainly new French oak for 24 months, the wine is rich, elegant and structured with a real mineral purity. Expect the reds, particulalrly the Terzeto to develop very well over the medium term.
